How do we apply the ion-mask™ technology?
ion-mask™ is applied to the entire shoe, after construction. This ensures every fibre throughout the shoe is treated and therefore hydrophobic. There is no additional stitching or layers of materials required.
The ion-mask™ process takes only 3 minutes.
- The shoes are loaded into the ion-mask™ machine, where the air is evacuated to create a vacuum.
- After about 30 seconds a plasma is engaged. This primes the shoe surface making them ready for the chemical to be added.
- A flurocarbon is added to the machine and chemically bonds to every fibre of the shoe.
- After approximately 3 minutes, air is returned to the chamber and the shoes can be removed. They've been fully treated with ion-mask™ technology.
Only tiny quantities of chemicals are needed, with minimal waste, so ion-mask™ technology is highly efficient compared to traditional methods such as dip application or membrane technologies. The process is also activated at room temperature, making it one of the most energy efficient footwear technologies available.
