Planning a wedding is no small undertaking, but solid planning and adhering to a timeline will make the whole process easier to handle. Origa have put together a list of some key milestones to help keep you on track, please feel free to print this out and use it to help you organise things on the run-up to your big day.
Immediately
- Agree a date, budget, style of ceremony and number of guests. Put arrangements in writing
- Choose your attendants
- Book ceremony/reception venue
- Book caterer if required
- Book photographer/videographer
- Arrange wedding insurance
- Start searching for that dress
- Order the cake
Six Months
- Organise your accessories and bridesmaids' outfits
- Organise clothing for the groom and attendants
- Book honeymoon
- Arrange transport
- Discuss flowers and book florist
- Consult hair stylists and make-up artists
- Order invitations and additional stationary
- Plan your evening entertainment
Three months
- Set up a wedding gift list
- Advise guests to book any accommodation
- Confirm your ceremony details with the registrar/minister
- Chose your wedding music/hymns
- Notify your bank, building society and relevant authorities that you intend changing your name and on what date it will take effect
- Post invitations
- Order wedding rings
- Finalise menu and drink selections
- Arrange to give notice of marriage at your local register offices
One month
- Organise thank you gifts for your attendants
- Design your seating plan
- Arrange for a final wedding dress and underwear fitting
- Choose clothes for your going away outfit/honeymoon
- Make appointments to test run hair/make-up
Last two weeks
- Confirm all arrangements
- Give the best man a list of all the wedding services involved in your wedding day
- Chase up any late replies and confirm final guest numbers with your reception venue
- Prepare speeches
- Double-check legal and travel documents
- Organise foreign currency
- Enjoy your hen/stag parties
- Enjoy a beauty pamper session
- Hold a rehearsal
- Practise walking in your wedding shoes
